Scope of service:
General requirement:
Microbiological Examination, Health related chemical examination, pH measurement, toxicology testing, clinical safety testing and functionality testing.
1. Microbiological examination: Include microbial colonies counting, examination for fecal coliforms, aureus, pseudomonas, mold and yeast
2. Health related chemical examination: Include analysis examination for Mercury, lead, arsenic etc. examination for forbidden /limited chemicals such as cantharidin, nitrogen mustard, mercaptoacetic acid, sex hormones, formaldehyde, etc. pH value measurement and other related examination.
3. Toxicology testing: General cosmetic products are required to pass the acute skin irritation test, acute eye irritation test and multiple skin irritation tests. Cosmetics for special purpose have to perform additional tests such as skin allergic reaction test, phototoxicity test, Ames test and in vitro mammalian cell chromosome aberration test.
4. Clinical safety and functionality testing for special purpose cosmetics: include human patch testing, human trial testing, SPF value measurement, PA value measurement and waterproofing testing, etc.
Requirement for test of exceptional circumstances:
1. All products claiming to have contained a-hydroxy acids or did not claim to have contained a-hydroxy acids but its a-hydroxy acids content ≥3% need to pass the a-hydroxy acid test, while also have its PH value measured.
2. All product contain over 5% of UV absorber (exclude titanium oxide and zinc oxide) are required to pass Skin allergy test and phototoxicity test.
3. Any product claiming to have treatment for pimples, mites and acne, are required to be tested for its antibiotics and metronidazole contents.
4. Products specialized in treating dandruff should be tested for its antifungal agent.
5. Ames test can be replaced by In vitro mammalian cell gene mutation assay.
